1611 Shangri La Court
Enjoy peace and privacy at this single-story rancher, nestled in the hillside beneath the shade of a centuries-old stately oak. The sun-drenched 5-bedroom, 4.5 bath house with separate In-Law unit on 1.66 acres and approximately 3,765 sq. ft. of living space, exudes the warmth and comfort of a family home while boasting amenities that make it an entertainer’s dream, including an in-ground spa attached to the Pebble Tec pool, lush, but low-maintenance landscaping, a working waterfall, and large flat lawn. This quintessential California home at the end of a small court in the family-oriented Silver Dell area of the Reliez Valley neighborhood feels serene and secluded while being just minutes from Lafayette’s award-winning schools, BART station, and downtown, with world-class shopping, dining, and nightlife.
Broad bay windows, walls of glass, and several skylights flood the home with natural light and provide stunning views of the verdant yard and hillside from nearly every room in the house. Past the bright, tiled entryway, hardwood floors run throughout the home, leading first to the formal dining and living rooms, where subtle sliding partition walls offer the option to separate the entertaining area from the kitchen and living space. Cozy up by the gas fireplace in the formal living room while overlooking the quaint wooden bridge, Reliez Creek and brick-and-gravel pathway that lead to your own two-horse barn. The home’s second gas fireplace is found in the spacious family room, with views of the pool and outdoor entertaining space as well as direct access to the kitchen, making it a perfect “home base” for children and friends.
Sunlight pours into the open-concept kitchen and adjacent family room, gleaming off the gourmet stainless steel appliances and expansive granite breakfast bar. Steps from the kitchen, French doors lead to the backyard and, around the corner, to a standalone in-law unit with a covered porch, and private access to the driveway and 3-car garage, perfect for an au pair, extended family, or adult children. The home’s master bedroom features floor-to-ceiling windows and French doors that open to the back deck and pool, and each of the 5 bedrooms offers outdoor views without compromising privacy. Ample space and storage throughout provide plenty of room for your family to grow, while charming amenities and an unbeatable location make this home and property the heart and soul of family life.
Low on density and high on greenery, Lafayette offers rolling hillsides, excellent schools, and an easy commute to Oakland and San Francisco thanks to the Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) station in the town center. The Happy Valley area features meandering country roads and showplace estate homes perched on large hillside parcels that offer panoramic views of the valley. Mediterranean, English, and French Country architecture populate the landscaped neighborhoods. Lafayette’s central business district offers quality shopping and dining for locals and visitors alike. Restaurants such as Postino, The Cooparage, Chow and Metro Lafayette are thriving. For those seeking old-fashioned comfort food, Millie’s Kitchen is a popular breakfast and brunch restaurant with large portions and modest prices. Lafayette Reservoir is open year-round for boating, fishing, picnicking, and hiking. After a long day on the water, locals head to The Roundup Saloon, a throwback to the days of rowdy roadhouses.
We were blessed to purchase and move onto Shangri La Court in 2006. We chose the home for two primary reasons: to give our family the safe space to grow and adventure together and to take advantage of the great opportunity of Acalanes High School. Our home has fulfilled that and so much more. The home and the property became the heart and soul of our family as we grew together and embraced the diverse opportunities of the Acalanes and Lafayette communities. Our home truly became “home base” for our children and their friends. We could not have hoped for anything more or better!
